In theory I don’t need a reason to help someone. I do what l can. My children are growing up and Joshua my son took to school around thirty ‘One campaign’ bands and dished them out to his school friends so he is doing his bit. Every child should have the right to do well and prosper, have the right to an education and access to The World Wide Web. One thing is clear, it has been an absolute honour to represent one.org in sync with some of my views and one of them is the fight against extreme poverty. I have been involved ‘hands on’ for ten years. I am not shouting out or boasting, it’s just to explain to others.
Firstly it was an honour being invited to a conference at London’s University College. Walking where ‘genius is at work’ was inspiring. My short speech on why I am a member of ONE went down well. I was involved in the ‘Thrive’ campaign which was in support of getting farming going by providing resources. I stood on the steps of number 10 with a South African Farmer which was inspiring. No seriously the ‘Thrive’ campaign was a success. I got invited to write a letter to the then Business and Innovation Minister Dr Vince Cable about my view on corruption in poor countries, how they get mugged off by those who bleed the country’s resources and money by basically stealing it. I went up to Downing Street again and delivered my letter by hand. I was invited to be involved in ‘Agit:8’ which was an event we put on outside The Tate gallery in London.
We hope by 2030 the ‘One campaign’ we will have been eradicated. It was a great milestone when l organised a consultation with my MP Caroline Lucas who l am proud to say she came on board. The reason l feel l get invited to represent is not so much my Academics or status standing, its more because l add a view based around common sense and stand up for what is morally right. I have not been able to be hands on involved for a couple of years but in my small way l am doing what l can.
My health and personal life is balanced so l hope to get stuck in again. For the record we don’t want your money or anything it’s the simplicity of your voice.
