One hot sunny afternoon CAN volunteer Anthony and I were invited by Juliet to attend the unveiling of Shore House’s completed garden project.
Deputy Mayor Councillor Alex Phillips and BHT Chief Executive Andy Winter officially opened the garden, and presented certificates to clients who had contributed to this fabulous garden project as part of the BHT in Bloom competition.
Growing up producing our own fruit and vegetables from a young age, I love to eat at barbeques which have an abundance of flavour, using home grown crops.
We spoke with a couple of Shore House clients, who have both been residents for 18 and 16 months respectively. They told us how safe and comfortable they felt and about the wide range of activities offered including alfresco cooking, quizzes, pampering, visits to Stammer Park, the beach and local attractions. Of course this wonderful large garden with a fantastic club house, which was built from scratch by their volunteer Ade now gives the tenants a relaxing safe outdoor space as well.
Shore House provides recovery-focused support and high quality accommodation, 24/7, to 20 people with mental health and complex needs. Residents have an 18 month tenancy agreement which focuses on tenants being re-housed according to their individual needs.
The service is staffed by support workers, a senior support worker, an administrator, a group work co-ordinator, a deputy manager and a manager, as well as social work students, an intern and a volunteer.
Everyone has the comfort and privacy of their own room, with 4 shared kitchens, so that they have the independence to cook for themselves.
Thank you for a friendly afternoon and delicious food.
